Last week we were invited to the Scabal flagship store on Saville Row for a private tour and history lesson from Andrew Goldberg, Scabal’s National Sales Manager. It was fascinating to learn more about the heritage of a company that Edit Suits works so closely with.
Scabal was founded in 1938 in Brussels by Otto Hertz. Back then Scabal had just 6 employees, today Scabal employs approximately 600 staff worldwide. Over the years, Scabal has evolved from a simple supplier of fabrics into a supplier of top quality fabrics to the most prestigious tailors and textile businesses around the world. During their 82 years of existence, they have served and collaborated with the likes of Salvador Dali, who created a series of exclusive paintings for the company. While more recently they supplied the fabrics for the new James Bond film.
Despite this, they remain true to their roots, constantly researching and developing ever finer luxurious fibres and fabric qualities. It’s this focus on innovation that we can draw inspiration from as a brand. Inspiration to push and challenge the craft of suit making in a new age. When listening to Andrew speak about their new spring/summer fabric collection, it is clear how much thought goes into each weave design.
This level of consideration forms the basis of a set of narratives, each built around individual fabrics. Scabal’s heritage English mill is located in Huddersfield and has existed since the 16th century. As long as they continue to innovate and set the bar for the textiles industry, there is no reason why they can’t remain there for many more centuries to come. megafafa
